Description
Pind Daan is one of the significant Hindu rituals offered to ancestors to help them get peace and attain moksha. The sacred town in Bihar, Gaya, is the most important site for such a Pind Daan in Gaya, because it is said that the Lord Vishnu himself gave salvation to the souls there. Even the sacred Indians go to Gaya for this ritual besides others coming from other parts of the world. Most of the time, this is carried out during Pitru Paksha. Importance of Pind Daan at Gaya: In Hinduism, after death, the soul travels through different realms before finally attaining liberation. If the proper rites are not followed, the soul tends to get stuck in the earthly realm. Pind Daan is done in aid of these souls so that they may leave peacefully. Of course, Pind Daan is also so religiously important that, as mentioned in mythological accounts, Lord Rama did it for his father, King Dasharatha, at Gaya. All the rituals are performed on the Falgu River Banks, Vishnupad Temple, and at all other sacred places in Gaya. The devotees believe that because of the Vishnupad Temple where Lord Vishnu’s footprint is present, such all offerings directly reach the concerned ancestors through those blessings.
